There are times when I start wondering where this world is going. Watching the news, knowing that people are suffering without a reason, but under so many cheap excuses, reading what others think of our situation or simply listening to all atrocities others have done to their brothers makes me sick. At times, I even feel down and hopeless… as if human race were doomed to this destiny because of our stubborn hearts. Oh, I wish so many things happened in this hectic world.
For one, I would love to see us sharing in real fraternity. I am not thinking of us as if immersed in a weird all-pink surreal world with smiling everywhere, as we were doped or something. No! My point is to raise our kids on sharing values, I mean, showing them how important, how good, how advisable it is to share in order to live together. There is nothing that is so ours we cannot split with another brother or sister. We all are mother nature’s children. How did we forget it?!
Secondly, dealing with the lack of communication we live in is crucial. In this so called “Communications Era” in which everyone is (or can be) aware of what happens around the globe, we close our eyes, ears and mouth to what lies around us. It is discouraging knowing that we care more for those people on our facebook timelines than for those at home. It is as though we had forgotten how good it was to go out for a cup of coffee and chatting involved looking at each other, seeing each other in the eye. We have emptied our words!!
And finally, we must take a stand to protect what our ancestors considered sacred and is now being haunted by companies wishing to get benefits from it. Long time ago, we gathered around and took for granted everyone’s right to enjoy a glass of water, healthy food, fresh air, wonderful places all over the globe… Now, we have lost our awe (even the word is almost gone) for Nature.
So… is it all gone? Are we really going to our damnation irrevocably? Do we have any chances? How can I, an average Joe, do something about it? Am I really going to have an impact? All these questions I discussed with a friend in college this morning. Well… we came up with this:
It is up to us to take a stand. Protesting and demonstrating, although important efforts, sometimes give some people chance to vandalize or destroy rather than construct an alternative world. Thus, it turns easier for media to show social movements as groups of primitive or uncivilized people who cannot enjoy the sweetness of progress and modern life. What is left?
Doing it on a personal basis, passing on the information, our critical point of view to those who are in touch with us, raising awareness and letting people decide for themselves. It is not like we believe that being informed guides us to the right decision all the time; but at least it gives us a wider view so as to choose what to do with our lives. Personally, I think we can affect reality by committing to this and being patient (incredibly perseverant) Because one by one we might do something about this. It is always example that compels others to follow.
My question to you is this:
How do you think you are contributing to counterattack this monster?
